I met Dr. Shani in Feb of 09 and began my program to cure my diabetes. I was on insulin, 80 units a day, and oral medication. I kept asking my medical doctor for more insulin, but it wasn’t doing any good. My morning sugar level was never below 160. He said we could do that, but that I had to consider the damage it was doing to my body. I decided I didn’t want to do that, and I set out on a course to cure my diabetes. Within 60 days, I was completely off of insulin. Within 90 days I had started reducing my oral medication. My fasting level is now around 120 and continues to drop. It means that we are looking for the normal function of your body, rather than waiting until you are diseased and then trying to fix you. If you are already battling a condition (Diabetes/Hypothyroid), this approach allows us to determine what the triggers are that have worsened your condition or caused it to begin with. With that accurate diagnosis, the treatment is much more effective.Most laboratories around the nation come up with their reference range (that your findings are compared to) by compiling data from unhealthy people. They simply use averages of people that were tested in their lab…unfortunately, a big portion of those tested in those labs are unhealthy. If your blood work falls within the laboratory reference range, it’s saying you are as healthy as 95% of people that were tested in that lab. To us, that’s not healthy. Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis means that we analyze a bio-marker in your blood against a much stricter range…a functional range that was established for healthy people. I’ve had a lot of blood tests done before by my primary doctor. Are there any other tests that are necessary?Yes. First, not all blood tests are the same and unfortunately a lot of doctors order limited tests- either because that’s what they are comfortable with or because that’s what your insurance carrier allowed under your plan. Second, there is a series of other important (saliva, hormone, urine, stool) that are essential not only for the proper diagnosis…but also for the right treatment plan.I’ve heard that you have strict guidelines when accepting people into the program. What kind of patients are you looking for?First, it’s important to know that this is NOT a stand-alone treatment. If you are going against your doctor’s recommendations by not taking your medications, or you do not have a primary physician; then you will not be considered for our program.We are only considering patients who are highly-motivated and are ready to take an active role in their health. Will I be able to get off my medications?We work hand-in-hand with your primary doctor to make any adjustments in your medications. We routinely see our patients decrease their medications with the supervision of their primary physician, or go off the medications entirely. Some of our patients reverse their diagnosis all together when dramatic changes on their follow up blood tests occur.How long is the program?It depends on your condition, your age and many other factors.
